Entry 3: Learning Environment
The learning environment must be well equipped to prepare students for life beyond the classroom. Learners are lifelong and are able to work individually, in teams, with technology, and under different motivational circumstances. The skills gained in the classroom are intended to remain with the students and to be applied in their future environments.
In music, students of all stages engage in activities that require individual thought, practice, and presentation. These activities can be geared toward individual performance or continue on to group collaboration. Students often share unique ideas with peers to create a combined project. Some of these lessons can easily integrate technology on individual and group levels. Under my instruction, I strive to change the environment type often so all learners have a chance to work under their best condition. In the artifacts, we see an example of students playing all together as a class, students observing as an audience as a small group performs, and students working in their choice of groups or as individuals simultaneously.
